Racism is not a bone disease …
Sometimes, people say things like, “That person doesn’t have a racist bone in their body.”
When I was a kid, this confused me, because when I heard it, I thought racism was a bone disease. So, the first time I heard someone say, “She’s getting a bone marrow transplant,” I blurted out, “she won’t be racist anymore!”
I don’t know where the idea that racism is a bone disease comes from. I mean, based on the reaction of the people around me, only an idiot would think racism is in the bones.
So, having grown older, I understand now, that when someone says, “that person doesn’t have a racist bone in their body,” they’re letting everyone know, “Hey! I know racism isn’t a bone problem, it’s a brain problem!” I then assume that the person in question has a brain problem with racism.
I’m pretty sure sexism, homophobia and the like also aren’t bone diseases.
If it turns out, yes, racism, sexism, homophobia and more are, indeed, bone diseases, please let me know in the comments. Let’s see if we can’t get people working on a cure!
